Liberty Square

The building complex of the Freedom Square is a synthesis of the styles that mark the history of Belo Horizonte, and is located in the region of Savassi, in the encounter of four great avenues. The construction of the square began at the time of the founding of the new mining capital in 1895-1897. Located at the highest point of the initial area of ​​the city (circumscribed to Avenida do Contorno), the square was built to house the power of Minas Gerais, the buildings of the Government Palace and the first Secretaries of State follow the trend of the time - eclectic style with Neoclassical elements. Over the years, the complex has been receiving constructions of different architectural styles. In the 1940s, the Art Deco style with stone powder coating of the Cristo Rei Palace. In the 1950s and 1960s modern buildings were incorporated into the complex, such as the Niemeyer Building and the Public Library, both designed by Oscar Niemeyer. In the 1980s, in a postmodern style, the building known as "Queen of the Junk" was inaugurated, which is under renovation to house the Tourist Service Center. The square also has a bandstand and light source. The layout and the gardens, inspired by the Palace of Versailles, are an invitation to walks and walks. This square, along with Raul Soares Square and Sete de Setembro Square, is among the most important in the city. The architectural and landscaped complex of Liberty Square was registered on June 2, 1977. The measure contemplates, therefore, the buildings of the civic center - Palácio da Liberdade, and around the museums of the city where it extends to the gardens, lakes, Malls, fountains and monuments of the square, as well as the facades of several buildings of its surroundings.


Nhotim is a place in continuous transformation, where art coexists in unique relationship with nature. Located in Brumadinho, 60 km from Belo Horizonte (MG), Inhotim occupies an area of ​​100 ha of botanical gardens with an extensive collection of rare tropical species and an artistic collection of international relevance.

Contemporary art

In Inhotim's collection more than 500 works by 100 artists from 30 different nationalities. Painting, sculpture, drawing, photography, video and installations of renowned Brazilian and international artists are displayed in galleries scattered throughout the Botanical Garden.

Botanical Garden

The total area of ​​the growing Inhotim Botanical Garden is distributed in its two main collections: Natural Reserve, with 300 hectares of conserved native forest, and visitation area, with 100 hectares of botanical gardens and five ornamental lakes that add up 3.5 hectares of area.

Pampulha Lagoon - São Francisco Assis Church

The Lagoon of Pampulha is a lagoon located in the region of Pampulha in the municipality of Belo Horizonte in the State of Minas Gerais. It is part of a complex with other tourist attractions and was designed by Oscar Niemeyer during the administration of Juscelino Kubitscheck in front of the prefecture of Belo Horizonte. The Pampulha lagoon is also the scene of major sporting events such as the Pampulha International Tour, among other national and international competitions .
